The Flying Irish Studio offers a comprehensive program in Irish Dance, where participants learn proper training and technique in traditional and modern Irish Dances and the cultural history of the dance form. Classes, open to students ages 3.5-adult, are held in a friendly and encouraging atmosphere. Good class and practice habits, correct technique and poise are emphasized while personal and artistic growth is encouraged. Class Practice Log (Download and fill out weekly): Irish Dance Practice Log 2011-2012 Registration Information (links below) Prices & Policies, Registration Contract, Medical Release (age 13 +, senior novice - champion) Class Attire Irish Dance classes: black logo shorts, green logo tee-shirt or logo tank top or black tank leotard, poodle socks, appropriate dance shoes; Little Leprechauns: solid colored leotard (no skirts), nude or pink dance tights, black ballet slippers; Adult-only classes: white or green tee-shirt, black work-out pants (fitted from knee down), appropriate shoes. Go to our Resources page to order class attire, shoes & etc. Payments may be made in class, mailed to the studio or use the Paypal button below to pay your monthly tuition (non-AAP classes) & yearly registration fee. Tuition is due on or before the 7th of the month. Prices valid starting August 2011.
Soft Shoe Students learn Irish Dance technique and reel, light jig, single jig and/or slip jig steps appropriate to their ability level. Ages 6 (as of Sept 1st) & up. Hard Shoe Students may learn solo treble jig and hornpipe steps set dances in jig and hornpipe timing and/or group performance routines all at a level appropriate to the student's ability. Hard shoe is a more advanced form of soft shoe Irish Step Dancers must take soft shoe along with hard shoe classes. Advanced level classes are combined soft & hard shoe. Ages 6 (as of Sept 1st) & up. Figures/Teams Group routines for competitions and performances. Classes may incorporate ballet technique and yoga for cross training purposes. Flying Irish Freestyle routines blend many styles of movement into dances based on Irish Step. See the team hand-out for requirements. Competition Any student taking weekly 1-hour classes may participate in live and digital feisanna. More dedicated dancers may take additional weekly classes at discounted prices when they participate in the All Access Pass program (see prices & policies above for details). Flying Irish Dancers & Flying Irish Dance Troupe The studio's performance groups participate in over 20 shows a year, giving its members invaluable experience in front of many diverse audiences. See the team hand-out for requirements. Adult Irish Dance Adult students learn solo Irish Dance steps and group dances and may participate in the studio's competition and performance programs. Adult students may participate level-appropriate children's group classes when dedicated adult-only group classes are not offered. Ages 18 & up, no experience necessary. Private Lessons Private and semi-private lessons, when available, may be taken as an addition to regularly scheduled group lessons, prior to joining an existing class or when group lessons are not available. 24 hours notice must be given to cancel out of a private lesson or payment is due in full.
Cross Training At the Studio Cross-training has been proven to be effective in reducing or eliminating over-use injuries. Examples of cross-training used at the studio include: classic ballet and modern dance movements, to teach students to move with grace and poise while using their whole bodies; barre, floor-barre and center exercises from ballet to improve turnout, balance, directional acuity and to strengthen the feet, ankles and knees for injury prevention; Pilates and yoga exercises to increase flexibility and core strength.
