The Flying Irish Approach

Our hallmark is quality Irish Dance programs with a focus on teamwork & cooperation, technique, stage presence, and the ability to perform innovative and crowd-pleasing routines in a variety of performance and competitive venues.

Steps and movements are broken down into easy-to-understand components, (rather than by having students follow along). This method has proven to be successful for a wide variety of learners and learning styles, and provides a solid foundation over the long term.

Cross training is encouraged, for injury prevention and because we believe that exposure to other movement forms, such as modern dance and theater, makes for a more complete Irish dancer and a more well-rounded individual.  YOGA is offered at the studio, to dancers and non-dancers alike, to help participants stay flexible and healthy and to aid in injury prevention for all sports.

Our solo and team dancers have placed in the top five in regional and national competitions. The studio's performance group, The Flying Irish Dance Troupe, have performed with The Eileen Ivers Band, Natalie McMaster, Cherish the Ladies, and others.

We belong to the North American Irish Dance Federation, where dancers compete against a standard, not each other, ensuring a love of Irish Dance while fostering friendship and comaraderie amongst competitors. Live and digital competitions are offered, allowing dancers to compete as much, or as little, as they choose, Digital feisanna give dancers a chance to compete in a familiar environment (the Flying Irish Studio) while minimizing travel expenses. All styles of Irish Dance costume may be worn in competition, so long as they are neat, clean and fit well.

Dancers and their families can chose their level of participation in Flying Irish programs. Students may take classes for fun and recreation, may participate in a few, or many, feisanna throughout the year and may perform at any number of venues. Dedicated students may take many classes during the week, while others may take only one or two. Our All-Access Pass program helps make multiple classes more affordable by allowing participating families to pay one price for all of a student's dance classes.

Become a part of the Flying Irish family today and watch your child blossom!

OUR STUDIO

The Flying Irish Studio in Ashby, MA, is a circa early-1850s post and beam barn that has been rehabilitated and renovated into a state-of-the-art dance studio. Income from special events funds studio maintenance and the purchasing of studio supplies, allowing us to keep our tuition prices low while maintaining our standard of excellence in training.

Our commitment to historic buildings is maintained by offering Flying Irish classes at Center Town Hall, Shirley, MA, an 1847 Greek Revival building.
